Abstract(s)
The prevalence of unsuspected language deficits, high in clinical settings, was examined in a sample of 167 clinic-referred preschoolers (aged 3 to 5): 73.1 % were diagnosed with a language disorder, which is consistent with rates reported by the literature. The sensitivity of parental worry for language development was particularly high (88.5 %). However, for 25.5 % of non-worried parents, the child also had language deficits. The non-detection of language deficits can lead to significant negative consequences for the development of the child who presents behavioral problems. It therefore needs to be prevented as soon as possible.
