Abstract(s)
Depuis les années 1990, le développement de l'autodétermination chez les personnes ayant une
déficience intellectuelle est considéré, dans le domaine de l'éducation spécialisée, comme l'un des
objectifs d'intervention les plus importants à atteindre chez cette clientèle (Chambers, Wehrneyer,
Saito, Lida, Lee, & Singh, 2007). L'autodétermination est d'ailleurs considérée comme un aspect
crucial pouvant mener à des résultats de vie plus positifs chez les personnes ayant des limites
intellectuelles (Wehrneyer & Schwartz, 1997). Or, la littérature recense peu de programmes valides
visant l'acquisition d'une plus grande autodétermination chez les adultes ayant une déficience
intellectuelle.
La présente étude a pour objectif d'évaluer un programme d'intervention visant le développement de
l'autodétermination chez les adultes à risque d'itinérance présentant une déficience intellectuelle.
Lors de l'implantation du programme, les participants ont assisté à une série de 11 ateliers leur
permettant d'apprendre des habiletés sous-jacentes à l'acquisition d'une plus grande
autodétermination. Ces ateliers ont été animés par une stagiaire finissante à la maîtrise en
psychoéducation: Le programme a ensuite été évalué à l'aide d'un devis quasi-expérimental avantaprès
avec groupe témoin non équivalent. La mise en oeuvre du programme a aussi été vérifiée.
1 L'évaluation du programme a mené à des résultats statistiques peu concluants puisqu'un seul des
objectifs poursuivis a été atteint. Plusieurs facteurs peuvent expliquer les effets modestes de
l'intervention et sont abordés dans la discussion. Des recommandations pour une implantation future
du programme y sont également proposées.
