Une approche psychanalytique du repli identitaire : le cas de l’islamophobie en France

Abstract(s)
Dans cet article, nous chercherons à montrer la nécessité de compléter les approches psychologique et sociologique de
l’islamophobie dans le contexte français par une approche psychanalytique. Nous nous pencherons dans un premier
temps sur les apports des diverses interprétations du phénomène issues des sciences humaines (sociologie, psychologie,
théorie du genre) et sur les limites théoriques qu’elles présentent. Nous tâcherons ensuite d’évaluer la pertinence de
certaines catégories psychanalytiques (projection, perversion, identification) pour produire une analyse plus fine nonseulement des affects racistes mais aussi du traitement médiatique de l’Islam. Si l’on veut pouvoir fournir un critère
qui discrimine entre les critiques légitimes de l’intégrisme et l’islamophobie comme telle, mais aussi entre l’affirmation
agressive et creuse des mouvements identitaires et n’importe quel processus d’identification dialectique, on ne peut se
contenter de décrire le racisme comme un processus par lequel une communauté ou un individu construit son identité
en rejetant un autre. L’autre construit par le groupe raciste (qui fait l’objet d’investissements contradictoires) se
distingue des figures courantes de l’altérité en ceci précisément qu’il ne peut pas être un pôle dialectique
d’identification: c’est un autre absolu, sans qualité propres, qui loin de renforcer l’identité de celui qui s’y oppose, la
mine de l’intérieur. Si l’on veut comprendre le cercle vicieux de l’islamophobie contemporaine, il faut donc renverser
l’idée selon laquelle le racisme est fonction de la construction identitaire pour montrer qu’au contraire, plus une figure
anonyme et sans altérité concrète de l’autre se solidifie, plus l’identification dialectique d’un “soi” cohérent devient
problématique.
