Matérialité et transgression du corps obscène dans les oeuvres de Catherine Millet, Catherine Breillat et Julie Doucet

Abstract

Ce mémoire s’intéresse à la mise en discours du corps et de la sexualité dans des productions culturelles réalisées par des femmes. Plus précisément, ces œuvres transgressent le corps féminin sexuel grâce à l’utilisation et à la réappropriation de certaines stratégies associées au genre pornographique. Ainsi, nous chercherons à démontrer que la matérialisation du corps dans ces œuvres permet la libération de celui-ci et propose donc un discours nouveau sur la représentation du corps féminin et de la sexualité des femmes. La spécificité de cette analyse repose sur son corpus qui est composé d’œuvres provenant de trois médiums différents. Le premier chapitre sera consacré au roman La vie sexuelle de Catherine M. de Catherine Millet et abordera la question du témoignage pornographique. Le deuxième chapitre s’intéressera au film Romance réalisé par Catherine Breillat et analysera la relation entre genre romantique et genre pornographique. Finalement, le troisième chapitre explorera l’univers singulier de la dessinatrice Julie Doucet et de sa bande dessinée Dirty Plotte. Nous verrons alors comment celle-ci s’attaque à la déconstruction du genre féminin par l’utilisation d’un corps grotesque, sexuel et violent. Pour terminer, nous rapprocherons nos trois œuvres dans le but d’établir des lieux de convergences entre-elles. Nous aborderons alors les questions de la transgression des limites et des interdits, du corps comme espace d’abjection et de la subversion du genre pornographique comme moyen de produire une métapornographie.

This thesis explores discourses on the body and sexuality through artworks that are created by women and that portray the female body unconventionally. More precisely, we are interested in artworks that transcends the female sexual body by using and reclaiming strategies commonly associated to the pornographic genre. Thus, we seek to demonstrate that the materialization of the body allows its liberation and the construction of a new discourse and a new representation of the female body and women’s sexuality. The uniqueness of this analysis lies within the use of artwork from three different media. The first chapter focuses on the novel “La vie sexuelle de Catherine M.” by Catherine Millet and addresses the question of the pornographic testimony. The second chapter investigates the relationship between the romantic and pornographic genre through the analysis of “Romance”, a movie directed by Catherine Breillat. The third chapter will explore the singular universe of comic book artist Julie Doucet in fanzine “Dirty Plotte” in which she deconstructs the feminine image by representing the female body as grotesque, sexual, and violent. To conclude, these three works of art are brought together to reveal their many points of convergence. We tackle the moral and societal transgression of the perception of the female sexual body, the abjection of the female body, and the subversion of the pornographic genre as a means to produce metapornographic work.
