| fr |
dcterms.abstract | This article presents a detailed portrait of the relationships between early cinema and theatrical institutions in Montréal. Early cinema played a key role in the strategies of emergence of the city's Francophone theatre, then in the process of distinguishing itself from Anglophone theatre, its New York based rival, as well as acting as an attraction in a context of fierce competition. This led not only to mixed houses, where theatre and cinema shared the stage, but also to a deeper interpenetration of the two an forms, resulting in the first appearance of a dramatic cinema in Québec. | fr |
