Les gangs de rue montréalais en prison

Abstract(s)
Dans le cadre de la maitrise en criminologie, option sécurité intérieure, nous avons réalisé un travail
dirigé dont le but est de mettre en lumière le phénomène des activités criminelles en établissement
de détention, spécifiquement celles perpétrées par un détenu réputé affilié à un gang de rue. Nous
avons aussi voulu comprendre si la commission de ces actes découle directement ou indirectement
de l’ajustement des détenus à l’univers carcéral.
Le phénomène de la violence ainsi que celui du maintien d’activités criminelles en détention sont
des réalités bien présentes et qui semblent perdurer. Depuis plusieurs décennies, des chercheurs de
toutes les sphères des sciences sociales ont tenté de comprendre la réalité des détenus incarcérés.
Notre questionnement découla donc de notre recension de littérature, cette dernière mentionnant
que les détenus affiliés aux gangs de rue en détention représentent un danger important pour la
sécurité de l’établissement, car ces derniers maintiennent des comportements inadéquats, violents
et criminels. Par contre, la majorité de cette littérature fait référence aux gangs de rue ainsi qu’aux
établissements de détentions américains. Nous avons donc décidé de nous intéresser à l’apparition
du phénomène des gangs de rue à Montréal ainsi qu’à leurs comportements en détention au Québec.
Nous avons fait de l’observation de terrain, des entrevues ainsi que l’analyse de dossiers
disciplinaires afin de répondre à nos questionnements.
